A major feature of Critical Theory is the analysis of how power is maintained in the postmodern world. According to The Frankfurt School, the mass media plays a central role.
We will watch videos about the Frankfurt School’s Culture Industry Theory. This is the notion that the mass media is creating a “manufactured consent” as Noam Chomsky would put it. Adorno and Horkheimer argue that culture and popular opinion are managed by the mass media.
